A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) is a best selling romantasy series by Sarah J. Maas that follows a human protagonist, Feyre Archeron, as she gets thrown into the precarious magical world of Prythian. Initially inspired by the fairytale, Beauty and the Beast, it quickly evolves into an epic journey filled with magical battles, stunning landscapes, and dashing romances. I first discovered ACOTAR through TikTok videos and picked it up on a whim. Although I struggled with the first book, I’m glad I persevered because I adored the subsequent books, primarily Books 2 and 3. The series is super fun and helped me get out of a reading slump that I’d been in for nearly 3 years due to work and school fatigue. ACOTAR is considered high fantasy but very accessible to those who don’t normally read this genre and it’s overall quite feel-good. There are no devastating deaths and there’s plenty of romance. Overall, it’s fun and spicy and there’s a pretty active fanbase that is always coming out with more and more wild fan theories.
